And last but not least...my wonderful family
Like a lot of linguists out there, I feel oddly obliged to include pictures of my family and my pets on my personal website. But in a way, there's good reason to do so. I would most certainly not be where I am today, not who I am today, if it weren't for my family and friends. I have a wonderful and crazy family. While some people grow up with a single parent, I am growing up with four. And in a unique way, these four parents have helped shaped my life. When my mother met and married my step-dad, we moved out to Maine, drastically altering my life and inevitably changing my future. My father stayed in Washington (where I was born), and eventually found and married my step-mother. Because of the cross-country divide, I readily identified as being from both Washington and Maine (hence the ease with which my speech became a linguistic mosaic of drastically different dialectal features).
Apart from my parents, I have three wonderful siblings. One is currently a chef, one is a Navy Pilot, and one works at a grocery store. I am also a very proud auntie of three, wife to an amazing woman, and doting mother to three cats (Sean Murphy, Martin, and Putt). |
